Cairns Festival never fails to surprise me—but this year, it seriously raised the bar.

I had the absolute pleasure of photographing Buenos Nachos Productions

From the moment they took the stage, I knew I was in for something different. Think high-energy physical theatre meets absurdist comedy, sprinkled with surreal costumes, unexpected audience interaction, and the kind of moments that make you question if you’re watching performance art, circus, or just a beautifully choreographed dream.

Photographing them was a thrilling challenge. They move fast—one second hanging upside-down in glittering neon jumpsuits, the next, frozen mid-expression in a tableau of comedic chaos. Timing was everything. I had to stay on my toes, ready for those split-second bursts of emotion, movement, and pure theatrical magic.

As a photographer, it’s rare to feel like you’re part of the performance. But shooting Buenos Nachos Productions felt exactly like that. Their energy spilled off the stage and into the crowd, and I found myself laughing behind the lens more than once.

Cairns Festival has always championed bold, original work, and this show was a perfect example of that spirit. Buenos Nachos delivered something unforgettable—not just a performance, but a full-on experience.
